Thomas R.
Shine
February 21, 1937 – February 26, 2025
Thomas R. Shine, 88, of Liverpool, NY passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at St. Camillus Residential Health Care Facility. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, son to the late Marvin and Irene (Mooney) Shine. Tom was educated in Detroit and started his life-long love for audio-visual arts in middle school when he joined the Sound Club. Tom worked hard in the business and eventually landed a great starter gig as the announcer for the Grand Haven Water Thrill Show in Michigan. Tom kept at it eventually becoming the Vice-President of Deer River Broadcasting Company, serving radio stations up and down the east coast. He was united in marriage to the former Patrice C. Kane, a blessed union of 44 years. In 1964, he came to Liverpool, NY where he had since resided. Tom was General Manager for WOLF Radio Broadcast Company in Syracuse, along with WRUN and KG 104 in the Utica-Rome area. He was instrumental in expanding AM radio in the Syracuse area and eventually started his own production company Horizon Visual Productions. With Horizon, Tom served the local market producing radio and TV commercials, corporate training videos and custom on-hold telephone programs for many of the business staples of our community. Tom always felt it was important to stay relevant, so he worked on AV projects until the very end. At 88 years young, Tom still went to his home office every day, editing footage and servicing his remaining accounts including The Euclid, StampCrete and Rolling Strong to name a few. Tom worked in the business for 74 years. Tom spent his past time with wife Pat and the rest of his family. Over the years Tom and Pat spent weekends camping in the Adirondacks, cruising the Caribbean and visiting his camp on Sandy Pond. Tom was an avid Sailor and with his wife Pat, sailed across Lake Ontario to Canada yearly. Tom loved his family and loved his k9 companions. Over the years they parented 9 Dobermans, several Labradors and a German Shepard.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, William Shine.
