Virginia P.
Henderson
May 28, 1933 – December 20, 2023
Virginia (Ginny) P. Henderson, 90, died peacefully on December 20, 2023 under the watchful care of Francis House surrounded by the love of her family and longtime friends, who meant everything to her.
Born and raised on the Southside of Syracuse, Ginny met the love of her life, Frank, in October 1952. They married the following year and celebrated 70 years of marriage this past May. Together they made a home in Liverpool where they raised three children; Tom (Beth) of Rochester, Julie (Michael) of Baltimore, and John (Randall) of New Paltz. One of Ginny's greatest joys was her three grandchildren; Catie, Meg, and Will. And she took delight in her four great-grandchildren; Callan, Jack, Patrick, and Rowan.
In addition to her immediate family, Ginny is survived by nieces and nephews, their spouses, children, and grandchildren who played such an important role in her life. Ginny is predeceased by her parents Allen and Frances Pearson and her beloved sister Allene.
Ginny worked as a clerk at the Liverpool Public Library for 26 years where she made many lifelong friends. Strong in the belief that we are on this Earth to make the world a better place, after her retirement she remained active in Friends of the Library, a Syracuse food pantry, and the Syracuse Chorale. Each year she knitted hats and mittens to donate to school children in need. Gregarious and social by nature, Ginny was a member of the First Baptist Church of Syracuse for over 75 years where she formed lasting friendships that have spanned decades.
To those who knew her, Ginny will be remembered for her wit, good humor, optimism, and faith in positive outcomes. She searched for the good in everything and everyone. She was caring, practical, frugal, musically talented, and loved her cats and garden. All she asked for was "just one more day" to enjoy and love her family.
A remembrance celebration of Virginia's life will be held at a future date.
