William P.
Culican
December 12, 1948 – March 11, 2025
William P. Culican, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the age of 76. Bill lived a life filled with laughter, love, and adventure, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be forever cherished by those who knew him.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of over 54 years, Carol. He was a proud father to his daughters, Catherine (Chad) Barnes and Kelly Griffin, and his son, Dan (Brittney) Culican. His grandchildren Lucian, Isabella and Vivian Earle, Samuel and Lola Griffin, and Ashley and Kye Culican were the light of his life, and he took great joy in their accomplishments, happiness, and in slipping them 20's when their parents weren't looking.
Bill is from a large family and is survived by loving siblings: brother Peter (Marilyn) Culican, sister Patricia Carter, sister-in-law Patricia Culican, sister Sheila (Robert) McCallum, brother Robert (Maureen) Culican, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and one Aunt Bunny who affectionately called him "Box Boy". Bill is predeceased by his parents Peter and Jane, brothers Edward and Hugh, brother-in-law Ed Carter and great friend Francis O'Brien.
A passionate outdoorsman, Bill loved to hunt and spend time in nature, finding peace and joy in the beauty of the world around him. One of his best memories was hunting "Old Three-Foot" with his brother Hugh, and Three Foot has been prominently hanging on his wall ever since. Bill made time to coach several of the kids' sports teams and was well loved by the players and their parents alike. Bill was a dedicated member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks for 52 years and a life member of the Liverpool Elks Lodge No. 2348. The Elks organization was very important to Bill, and he dedicated countless hours volunteering in several capacities. He was on the Veterans Committee, he Chaired Earth Day Road Cleanup, as well as The Dock, and was celebrated as Elk of the Year in 2009. Whenever a new person entered Lodge 2348, Bill acted as the Lodge Ambassador by immediately introducing himself and making them feel welcome. Additionally, his commitment to community service was further exemplified by his role as a past Commissioner of the Seneca River Fire District.
Bill retired from National Grid (twice!), where he was known for his hard work and dedication. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him, often sharing a good joke—even if it was one he had told numerous times before – (i.e. Ham Sandwich, Quarter Horse, and of course Blind Deer). A true social butterfly, Bill was the life of every gathering, effortlessly bringing people together with his stories and his frequent renditions of "Folsom Prison Blues", "Oh Danny Boy" or any number of songs in his repertoire. When the Macarena song was played, Bill was the first one on the dance floor. It has been said that Bill always had a beer or a camera in his hand – but many times it was both.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date, so that family and friends can gather to honor the incredible man that he was. In the hearts of his loved ones, Bill will always be remembered for his unwavering love, infectious laughter, and the countless memories he created with those he cherished.
Rest in peace, Bill. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
