Putman
October 20, 1937 – December 16, 2023
William (Bill) Putman, 86, of Baldwinsville, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023 of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was born in Schenectady, NY on October 20, 1937, the son of J. Wendell and Marion "Molly" (Smith) Putman. Bill obtained a BA in Mathematics from Ithaca College in 1961 and a MS in Mathematics from Michigan State in 1963. He had a 35-year career working as a Radar Engineer for General Electric, then Lockheed Martin. He was a member of the Elfun Society. Bill was a member of Liverpool First Presbyterian Church for 60 years, 40 years as a choir member and also served as a Deacon and an Elder. His volunteer work included being a member of the Liverpool Optimist Club, and 15 years as an AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, in addition to many small acts of kindness too many to mention.
His number one joy was spending time with his family and friends who were like family. He enjoyed making music with his accordion with his neighbors, at nursing homes and caroling at Christmastime. He enjoyed 20 years of Myrtle Beach winters. He loved sailing on Keuka Lake and traveling around the country and in Europe. He enjoyed cooking and made many wonderful meals for his family and friends. Especially famous for his meatballs and sauerbraten.
He was predeceased by his parents and his son in law, Mark Joslyn.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy (Kehr) Putman of Baldwinsville NY; children, William (Patricia) Putman of Liverpool, NY, Susan Joslyn of Fairfax, VA, Judith (Alfred) Sette of Windham, NH; a brother, George (Carol) Putman; a twin sister, Mary (Bob) Davidson; seven grandchildren: Sarah Putman, Rachel (Stephen) Woodard, Hannah Putman and fiance, Thomas Ressler, Natalia Joslyn, David Joslyn, William Sette and Charles Sette; sister-in-law, Sally (Donald) Green and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Liverpool First Presbyterian Church, 603 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY 13088. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the memorial fund of Liverpool First Presbyterian Church.
