William J. Shampine, 87, of Clay, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday October 11, 2025 after a short illness. Bill was born in Syracuse, NY the son of the late Claude and Anne (Sutton) Shampine. He served active duty with the US Air Force during the Berlin Crisis of 1961, where he was a radar operator for the 108th ACW, responsible for scrambling aircraft to counter Soviet threats. While employed as a draftsman at the Carrier Corporation, he met his loving wife, the former Nancy Moody, a blessed union of 64 years.

Bill was an innovative, self-taught, engineer who loved to solve challenging design problems. He was known for his hands-on approach, his common sense and positive attitude. In addition to creativity in solving complex engineering problems, Bill had a strong business sense and led the financial turnaround of a number of Syracuse and Utica based businesses and general manager and president. Bill was also active in the North Syracuse community, serving as a little league coach and coordinating local tennis leagues. His patient kindness left a lasting impression on those he touched.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Richard Shampine and sister, Patricia French.

Surviving is his beloved wife, Nancy M. Shampine, his children, Billy, Paul and Michelle as well as 10 grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rte. 31 Baldwinsville, with funeral services to follow at 1:00 pm.
