Yvonne E.
Duvall
August 11, 1936 – December 29, 2024
Yvonne (Emmons) Duvall, 88, of Memphis, NY passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Bronxville, NY, the daughter of the late Peter H. and Elizabeth B. Emmons. She graduated from Bronxville High School, Class of 1955, where she excelled in her studies and as a 3-sport varsity athlete. Yvonne continued her studies at Wheelock College in Boston MA, obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Education, Class of 1959. Yvonne moved to Arlington VA, and in 1961 married John H. Duvall. She taught elementary school before transitioning into real estate, where she enjoyed a decades-long, successful career. In 2021, Yvonne moved to Skaneateles, NY, to be near her family.
Yvonne had a big personality, impacting each person she met. She was astute, determined, and courageous, with a beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor, and contagious laugh. She enjoyed her many dear friends, her beloved Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, tennis, tending to her rose gardens, helping others, spending time at her summer home on Squirrel Island, ME, and perhaps most of all, spending time with her grandson, Patrick. Although Yvonne sustained a severe stoke in 2023, she courageously fought to recover, never losing her amazing sense of humor or spirited nature. Yvonne is predeceased by her husband, John H. Duvall, her brother, Douglas F. Emmons and her nephew, Patrick J. Lingley.
Surviving to cherish Yvonne's memory are her daughter, Ashley (William) Hayes, grandson, Patrick Duvall Hayes, all of Memphis, NY; two sisters, Gail (Denton) Kurtz of Eustis, FL and Beatrice Lingley of W. Roxbury, MA; brother-in-law, Robert Duvall; nieces, Natasha Duvall (Andrew Spellman) and Audrey Lingley; nephews, Denton Kurtz II and William Duvall III.
A memorial to honor and celebrate Yvonne's life will be held in the spring in Alexandria, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Yvonne's memory may be made to Humane CNY ( www.humanecny.org ), Helping Hounds Dog Rescue ( www.helpinghoundsdogrescue.org ), or Hospice of Central New York ( www.hospicecny.org ).
